Animal Contract Details

Winchendon is planning to hire Wachusett Animal Hospital and Pet Retreat as its new animal control officer, in partnership with Ashburnham and Westminster.
The hospital submitted the sole bid for the regional service work between the three towns, and each community will have its own individual contract with the hospital.
The hospital would provide full-time coverage from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days per week, significantly expanding the amount of coverage in town from approximately 20 hours per week to roughly 110 hours.
The annual cost for animal control services would increase by roughly $3,000, but the additional cost is outweighed by the increased coverage.
The new contract would provide 112 guaranteed hours of assistance compared to the 20 hours previously paid for in the old system.

Preparation and Planning
Before signing a contract, it's essential to have a clear understanding of what services are included and what's expected of you. This requires thorough preparation and planning.

As we discussed earlier, services can be categorized into two main types: core and non-core. Core services are essential to the project's success, while non-core services are secondary or optional.
To determine which services are included in your contract, carefully review the service level agreement (SLA) and look for key performance indicators (KPIs) that outline the scope of work.
A well-defined scope of work helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures both parties are on the same page. This includes identifying the specific tasks, timelines, and deliverables.
Make sure to also review the contract's terms and conditions, including any penalties or fees associated with non-compliance.
In our previous example, we saw how a poorly defined scope of work led to confusion and delays. By being clear and specific, you can avoid these pitfalls and ensure a smooth project execution.
