The Russian Salon Dog is a unique breed that originated in Russia and is known for its distinctive appearance and temperament. It's a medium-sized dog with a muscular build and a short, dense coat that comes in a variety of colors.
This breed is a cross between a Basset Hound and a Terrier, which is why it often inherits the best traits from both parents. As a result, the Russian Salon Dog is intelligent, energetic, and affectionate.
One of the most notable features of the Russian Salon Dog is its short, easy-to-maintain coat. This makes it a great choice for people who don't have a lot of time to devote to grooming.

They're relatively low-maintenance when it comes to grooming, but they do require regular brushing to prevent tangles. The standard includes three different hair cuts, including a long coat, a "carre" cut, and a sporting cut.
Russian Salon Dogs get along well with other animals, including dogs, cats, and small pocket pets. They're happy, carefree, and generally well-balanced, making them a great choice for city living.
Their small size means they're perfect for apartment living, but they do appreciate a small yard to play in. With proper care, they can have just as much fun playing in the kitchen of a small studio as they would in a backyard.
In terms of appearance, Russian Salon Dogs come in a variety of colors, including solid colors like red, cream, and sable, as well as bi-colors like white with red.

Ιστορία
The Russian Salon Dog breed has a fascinating history. It all started with the dedication of Lakatosh Julia Alexandrovna, a zootechnologist and international FCI/RKF judge.
She wanted to create a small dog that would meet her ideal requirements for a companion animal, so she began systematic and selective breeding in the early 2000s. Five breeding lines were established to ensure genetic diversity.
The foundation of the breed was based on the Yorkshire Terrier and Shih Tzu, but the exact recipe remains a secret. The breeders selected specimens that met their desired characteristics and used them for breeding.
Over time, the breeders were able to secure all the necessary characteristics in the breed's genes, ensuring that each new generation inherits them. This hard work paid off when the Russian Salon Dog was recognized as a new breed by the Russian Kennel Federation (RKF/FCI) in July 2013.
By 2016, the breeders had started registering the dogs in the breed's genealogical archive, and today, some parts of the breed's population have already reached five generations with a pedigree RKF.
