I am honored to serve as the Vice President of the NAHF, and look forward to the positive impact to come.

M. Anthony Barrero, Jr., Battalion Chief Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Fire Department.

My background includes over two decades of service to the Fire and Rescue Department with significant experiences spanning many areas of the fire service. These experiences include current and past certifications and qualifications in Fire Prevention, Emergency Medical Services, Suppression, and Hazardous Materials.

My experience includes command level positions in Operations, Hazmat and Fire Investigations, Suppression, and EMS. I have served on the International Code Council, a two-year term on the Building Code-Fire Safety Committee.

I am currently an Assistant Fire Marshal and am certified as a Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Suppression Officer, Law Enforcement Officer with full police powers. I am currently enrolled in the United States Fire Administration Executive Fire Officer Program. Related Professional Activities and Affiliations: International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 2168 National Association of Hispanic Firefighters Fairfax County Hispanic Association of Firefighters National Association of Fire Investigators International Association of Arson Investigators

2000 Married to Catherine with daughters Alexandra and Olivia Class offering: Community Risk Management Course Abstract The purpose of the session is to fully examine “early fire intervention” as a major firefighting strategy for fire departments, particularly in light of today’s significant budgetary constraints on the operational capabilities of many departments.

Roles & Responsibilities of our Vice President

    Reports to the President
    Works closely with the President and Director
    Acts as a member of the Executive Board
    NAHF Liaison to IAFF
    Manages relationships with external organizations (political, corporate, nonprofit…)
    Works with the Executive Board in achieving the organization's mission
    Research and reports current issues and legislation
    Participates in strategic planning
    Serves as ex officio of the NAHF legislative course of action
    Evaluates legislative implications to NAHF
    Works with the Exec Board to recommend legislative actions
    Participates in Board actions with respect to organizational priorities and concerns
    Reviews with the Executive Board any issues of concern
    Annually evaluates the performance of the President and President Elect
    Participates closely with the President to develop and implement officer transition plans
    Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the President
