A Message from Randy I take great pride and joy as the Executive Vice President, Communications of the National Association Firefighters. I enjoy working towards a common goal that will benefit our members and communities across the world. Randy Rodriquez |
My name is Randy Rodriguez and I am a proud member of the National Association of Hispanic Firefighters. At the NAHF, I hold the title of Executive Vice President of Communication and I strive to fulfill all my duties in a way that makes my organization proud.
I was born and raised right here in Phoenix, Arizona, so I take pride in my community and constantly work to make it a better place to live. I've accomplished a lot in my life and I'm always looking to do more. Many people depend on me for help and advice and I wouldn't have it any other way. I bear many titles and I am proud of each and everyone of them. I do my best to earn these titles with everything I do. These titles include: dedicated firefighter, devoted husband and father, community service advocate, mentor and volunteer. My goal is to inspire everyone I meet by bringing a positive influence into their lives. I believe that bringing hope to the world is one of the most important things you can do in life and I only wish that I were able to give hope to more people.
I worked as a superintendent in construction before I made the commitment to become a firefighter. I have been serving my community as a firefighter for the last eight years and I've been loving every minute of it. I work out of fire station Ladder 152 B shift and I also serve as the one of the Glendale's Public Information Officer and Special Events Coordinator.
The service projects I'm involved in tend to keep me pretty busy, but nothing could keep me too busy to devote time and attention to my highest priority: my family. I have been a devoted and caring husband to my beautiful wife for over 16 years and a loving father to my wonderful 19-year-old son. My family gives me the courage and the inspiration to do what I do everyday and because of that, I try to be there for them when they need me. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with his family as well as taking advantage of the great outdoors and participating in hunting and fishing activities.
I strive to invest 100% of my hard work and dedication into my job, while still managing to be involved in side service projects outside of work. When I'm not busy fulfilling my duties as a firefighter, I am working as the Vice President of a community service organization called Glendale's Hope. I founded the organization with my co-worker and friend Captain Eddie Smith. I came up with the name because I think the main focus of our organization should be around hope. I believe that without hope, you have nothing.
The organization strives to bring a positive influence to members of the community who have lost their homes, their belongings and their hope due to fire and other tragedies. It was created to help these families with both physically and emotionally re-building their lives. Glendale's Hope is currently working on a food bank project that will help these and other less fortunate members of the community have a place they can always turn to for the basic necessity of having a decent meal.
In my life, I try to always be willing and patient with the service projects I am involved in so I can give as much as possible. I am always looking for new service projects to create and new ways to serve the community. For example, in addition to my other volunteer work, I volunteer at a local Juvenile Detention center, mentoring and counseling the troubled kids there. I believe that more than anything, these kids need an authority figure to listen to them and give them good advice for turning their lives around. Most people look at these kids and they see lost souls or future criminals, but I see kids without hope. I see kids who never had a chance in life because of circumstances beyond their control. This is why I try to be that positive influence in their life by treating them like valued citizens instead of criminals.
I believe that more people should see the bad things of the world as new opportunities to help. The reason I always have such a positive attitude is because I have seen how service to others can change someone's life for the better and it makes me feel good knowing I played a role in that. If we could all just give a little more each day, I think we could make this world a heaven on earth.
