Hello my name is Mervin E. Barrera and I am the President of the NAHF. I am a lieutenant with the Fairfax County
Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia and I have been with my Department for over 20 years and I was a volunteer Firefighter
in high school. I have always had a passion for helping people when they are in need and I see myself as helping to build
the NAHF one step at a time to help make this the best organization that it can be. I have been with the Fairfax Hispanic
Firefighters since 2003 and I have been the president of the FHFA since 2008.
My hope is that we can all bring our experiences and knowledge and help each one of our members and help to advance and to provide our communities
with the support that they need. I look forward to serving each and every member of the NAHF in whatever way that I can.

Roles & Responsibilities of our President.
- Serves as the Chief Executive Officer
- Acts as a member of the Executive Board
- Guides the Executive Board in achieving the organization's mission
- Provides leadership to the Executive Board who set policy
- Chairs meetings of the Board after developing the agenda
- Encourages Board's role and participation in strategic planning
- Appoints the chairpersons of committees, in consultation with other Board members
- Discusses issues confronting the organization with Executive Board
- Facilitates Board actions with respect to organizational priorities and concerns
- Reviews with the Executive Board any issues of concern to the NAHF
- Monitors financial planning and financial reports
- Plays a leading role in fundraising activities
- Informally evaluates the effectiveness of the Board members
- Evaluates annually the performance of the organization in achieving its mission
